Hours after Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) withdrew its campaign for Tambunan and Bingkor, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) accepted independent Inanam candidate Kenny Chua as its member.
This means PBS will now be clashing with STAR in Inanam despite both Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component parties having inked a peace deal on four seats yesterday.
For the record, Kenny, who represented Inanam prior to the dissolution of the Sabah state assembly, is a close associate of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Despite this, he was sacked from PKR after he colluded with Tan Sri Musa Aman to attempt a coup against Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s government.
PETALING JAYA: Hours after Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) withdrew its campaign for Tambunan and Bingkor, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) accepted independent Inanam candidate Kenny Chua as its member.
This means PBS will now be clashing with STAR in Inanam despite both Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component parties having inked a peace deal on four seats yesterday.
According to the deal, PBS would cease its quest for Tambunan and Bingkor to pave the way for STAR, which won the seats in 2018, to defend them.
Based on a news report, the agreement was reached following a meeting presided over by Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
In return, STAR president Jeffrey Kitingan agreed to ensure that independent candidates Pransol Tiying and Marcel Jude support PBS candidates for the Bengkoka and Api-Api seats respectively.
For the record, Kenny, who represented Inanam prior to the dissolution of the Sabah state assembly, is a close associate of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Despite this, he was sacked from PKR after he colluded with Tan Sri Musa Aman to attempt a coup against Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s government.
However, the attempt fell flat on its face after Shafie advised the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri to dissolve the Sabah state assembly.
Kenny’s sacking was rumoured to be a cover up to prevent people from knowing that Anwar had given the former his blessings to “team up with Musa and bring Shafie down.”
According to an insider, Anwar did this out of spite as Shafie was supportive of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who had named the WARISAN president as choice candidate for the role of Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Kenny was quoted as saying that the Inanam seat will effectively belong to Star if he wins.
“If I win this seat as an indie, this seat belongs to Star,” he said.
