
Talks, gatherings or assemblies by any individual or political party will not be allowed in an election campaign if it is held during the pandemic, law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said.
He said candidates or parties would be encouraged to use social media and the print media for campaigning.
He said the EC had been working on amendments to the Election (Voter Registration) Regulations 2002 and other laws, preparing the SOPs and readying the infrastructure.
Answering a question from Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) on the progress in implementing Undi18, Wan Junaidi said the EC was making preparations to implement voting for those turning 18 as quickly as possible and automatic voter registration by September next year.

In a written parliamentary reply, Wan Junaidi said the Election Commission (EC) had been working with the health ministry to draft and prepare the “Covid-19 Prevention Guidelines for the Implementation of Elections”.
The guidelines would be adapted in accordance with the national recovery plan and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
“The EC will also review and consider suggestions from other parties to improve the implementation of the election process where health and safety issues are a priority in facing the Covid-19 pandemic,” he told Robert Lawson Chuat (GPS-Betong), who had asked about the planning and preparation of elections during the pandemic.
