Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed today that his ministry was not informed of Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali’s three-day trip to Turkey in July.
Khairuddin courted controversy by skipping a mandatory 14-day quarantine required of all those entering the country pursuant to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council in conjunction with the MoH.
His reasoning sparked uproar in the social media as netizens demanded an explanation from government if double standards were practised when meting out punishments to government ministers and ordinary citizens.
It was only then the MoH revealed that Khairuddin’s case was being investigated, following which a RM1,000 compound was issued to the minister.
However, the compound, dated the 7thof August 2020, raised suspicion that the government deliberately backdated the punishment given that the MoH announced on the 20thof August 2020 that it was still investigating the matter.

PETALING JAYA: Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed today that his ministry was not informed of Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali’s three-day trip to Turkey in July.
According to a news report (NST), Hisham said the Ministry of Health (MoH) only found out last week from media reports about Khairuddin skipping his quarantine, and Dr Noor Hisham himself said he has only received the full report yesterday from its internal investigations over the Covid-19 regulations breach.
“We are not in the know. We only got to know about this last week when it was raised in the media,” he said during his Covid-19 press briefing.
Dr Noor Hisham was responding to a question from the media on whether the minister’s RM1,000 fine was backdated, and if he had known about the whereabout of the minister’s entourage and potential family members who may have travelled with Khairuddin.
Khairuddin courted controversy by skipping a mandatory 14-day quarantine required of all those entering the country pursuant to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council in conjunction with the MoH.
When asked, Khairuddin gave the excuse that he was tested negative for the virus and was allowed into Istana Negara which would only have been possible if he was not a carrier of the Coronavirus.
