“Mahathir wanted to see who Najib’s proxies and nominees were by forcing them out of the woodwork. He planned to negotiate some terms with them in hopes that the money they stashed abroad could be put to use in PPBM. When nothing happened, he decided that UMNO needed to be kept alive with Najib as president. Then, the minute he gets enough Malay-Muslim MPs to form a new unity coalition, he will call both Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Najib to a roundtable to discuss the possibility of forming Republik Malaysia with Anwar as titular President and Mukhriz as Prime Minister”

There is a general perception among certain people that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is going to deregister UMNO by or before March 2019. Rumours began swirling right after the 14thgeneral election (GE14) concluded when an audio clip featuring the voice of an unnamed individual spoke of plans to scratch UMNO off the books. Even I helped fuel the rumour by suggesting that the deregistration would happen by or before March 2019. But not only is this untrue, the Prime Minister has every intention of getting Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak to lead UMNO once he squeezes the party dry of MPs.
Yes, Najib.
Seriously, why else would Mahathir, known for his suppressiveness and “I don’t give a hoot about freedom of speech” persona, tolerate people like me and give Najib that much coverage? Not even the Dato’s and Dato’ Seris I spent months strategising with knew the stuff that went on behind the scenes. These fellows got conned big time into thinking that the deregistration of UMNO was imminent and went around town telling all and sundry that they planned the whole affair. Little did they know that the whole thing was a red herring, contrived by a certain Dato’ Seri to ensure that the blogging community continued to talk about UMNO being as good as dead and gone.
For a reason.
The thing is, Mahathir needed to strike fear in the hearts of UMNO MPs to secure their commitments towards his cause. To date, 30 have agreed in writing that they will join PPBM the minute he tells them to do so. Several others have been paid bribes to the tune of RM30 million per MP to secure their commitments towards an UMNO-PPBM merger. One or two were even blackmailed and told that their crimes would be forgiven should they agree to do his bidding. The plan has always been to sink UMNO to such a low that even the staunchest of Najib’s loyalists would throw in the towel. Mahathir wants the party to be left only with a select number of leaders who he thinks will turn Najib into the party’s acting president.
If these leaders don’t get the job done, he will go after their blood. Mahathir wants Najib to be acting president, or, at the very least, the party’s de facto chief. He is giving the former premier all the press time he needs to redeem himself, hoping that people will begin to sympathise with and believe in him. To avoid being accused of political persecution, he has committed to toning down on anti-Najib rhetoric and keeps stressing that the final say is with the courts, hoping that the move will earn him praise for keeping to the rule of law. Then, when the time is right, he will get the courts throw Najib’s charges out on technical grounds provided that the former premier agrees to some terms and conditions.
So what are these terms and conditions?
Well, to understand them, you first need to be aware, that UMNO is not just your everyday, run-of-the-mill platform, but a multibillion dollar entity with assets in various categories locked under some proxy and nominee concerns. The party also lays claim to the beneficial ownership of some assets currently parked under Lembaga Tabung Haji, Felda and Felcra. Problems will arise should Mahathir decide to deregister UMNO without giving due consideration to the ownership of these assets. He is well aware that the assets would have to be distributed between the party’s three-odd million members should UMNO be deregistered altogether. And that’s where Daim Zainuddin comes into the picture.
Thanks to him, Mahathir has formulated ways to rob some assets without anyone knowing anything about it. By riding on Daim’s influence in the global financial sector, he got several of his cronies to stylise financial reports in such a way that a bulk of those assets remain ‘hidden’. As per the assets belonging to Tabung Haji, he has undertaken to park them under a DAP-run Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that will eventually transfer them to Khazanah. What concerns him now is the proxies and nominees Najib appointed between the years 2009 and 2017. Mahathir believes that the assets controlled by them generated some billions that they stashed somewhere in the central Asian region.
That, in essence, is why Mahathir decided to freeze all of UMNO accounts. He wanted to see who Najib’s proxies and nominees were by forcing them out of the woodwork. He planned to negotiate some terms with them in hopes that the money they stashed could be put to use in PPBM. When nothing happened, he decided that UMNO needed to be kept alive with Najib as president. Then, the minute he gets enough Malay-Muslim MPs to form a new unity coalition, he will call both Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Najib to a roundtable to discuss the possibility of forming Republik Malaysia with Anwar as titular President and Mukhriz as Prime Minister.
And rumour is, a certain state ruler who is dead against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has quietly agreed to the plan. If your next question is how I came to know about this, the man who architected the whole scheme met me late in October and handed me documentary evidence, lock, stock and barrel. Basically, everything you see happening today was scripted late in 2017 and is something even Lim Kit Siang knows about. Najib could easily have figured all this out had he the right team of people to advise him. But thanks to his kilometre-thick skull and tendency to place his trust in all the wrong people, he is about to be put in a situation where he will have to decide between his own freedom and the future of the Monarchical Institution.
So Najib, if you’re reading this, wake the hell up…
