PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today brushed off as lies rumours of purported defections from Pakatan Harapan to form a new coalition government comprising largely of Bersatu, Umno and PAS federal lawmakers.
Speaking to reporters after a function with his supporters in Negeri Sembilan, Anwar further described the rumoured numbers as being “exaggerated” and based on individual calculations by “several figures from the Opposition”.
“They said six from Amanah (will defect), we checked, it’s not true. So there is an element of deceit.
“(They said a further) 15 from PKR, we checked, it’s not true… The figure was exaggerated,” said the Port Dickson MP.
That was what Malaysiakini reported.
My message to Anwar is as follows:
Dear Anwar,
We only believe what we see, and judging from what I’ve seen, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is clearly in control of PKR, let alone Members of Parliament.
Despite all your claims of support, it was Azmin who led more than two thirds of PKR’s central command together with hundreds others out of a congress hall where your speech was being discussed.
It was Sarawak PKR Chief Baru Bian who led more than two thirds of the state party leadership to Putrajaya where he openly challenged your leadership by expressing support for Azmin Ali in no uncertain terms.
When you persisted with a convention in Sarawak, you couldn’t even muster a crowd of 500 people despite having thrown money around and it being a major convention in the lead up to the PKR national congress.
And when the party took action against Zuraida Kamaruddin, 44 elected representatives, including 15 PKR MPs, openly objected to your leadership by supporting Zuraida, knowing well in advance that the action against her was for remarks she made against you.
I was even told that more MPs would have turned up had it not been “a last minute thing.”
The list goes on.
So, if we’re going to go by evidence, what we’ve seen thus far paints an entirely different picture from what you’re telling the press.
But if we’re going to go by words alone, then, let it be known, that 31 MPs are presently in support of Azmin and are willing to ditch you at a moment’s notice.
Prove me wrong, Anwar.
