KUALA LUMPUR: The outcome of the Pahang Royal Council meeting will be announced at the Istana Abu Bakar in Pekan on later today.

Newly-minted Pahang state secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak told this to the media after the meeting concluded at around 7.30pm on Friday (Jan 11).

“Any decision made today will be announced tomorrow at Istana Abu Bakar, Pekan. That is all,” said Dr Sallehuddin.

The meeting, which was held in a hotel here, started around 4pm and it was chaired by the Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The subject matter of the meeting was not revealed to the media.

There has been speculation that the current state ruler, Sultan Ahmad Shah, could abdicate to make way for his son, Tengku Abdullah.

The selection of the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong has become a much discussed-topic after Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan stepped down as King on Jan 6.

The Keeper of the Ruler’s Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad said that the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong would take his oath of office on Jan 31.

After the Sultan of Kelantan, the next in line in from the nine Malay Rulers are the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan of Johor and Sultan of Perak respectively.

It is understood that Sultan Ahmad Shah, 88, is unwell.
