Former Chief Secretary of Pakatan Harapan Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah today denied allegations that he was part of a plot to form Parti Keadilan Negara together with Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

The claim, made in several Facebook and WhatsApp groups, alleged that Saifuddin would be made secretary-general of the new political entity while Azmin would assume the role of chairman.

The name of the entity, assuming true, suggests that team Azmin wants to split PKR’s vote during the upcoming general election.

The move may also be an attempt by the Azmin faction in PPBM to compel UMNO into contesting less seats during the election with the understanding that Parti Keadilan Negara would stand a better chance of winning in PKR dominated areas.

PETALING JAYA: Former Chief Secretary of Pakatan Harapan Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah today denied allegations that he was part of a plot to form Parti Keadilan Negara together with Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

The claim, made in several Facebook and WhatsApp groups, alleged that Saifuddin would be made secretary-general of the new political entity while Azmin would assume the role of chairman.

“I only got to know about it (the list) from social media. I have no knowledge or involvement with discussions about a new party.

“My officers showed it to me and said my name (was listed) as the secretary-general in the organisational chart,” he was quoted as saying.

Saifuddin conforms to a splinter faction led by Azmin that left PKR to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

He was previously an UMNO member and considered to be a moderate and liberal-progressive politician in Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s cabinet.

In 2011, Saifuddin criticised Najib’s handling of the Bersih 2.0 rally where over 1,600 protestors were arrested.

In 2015 Saifuddin quit UMNO and joined PKR over disagreements with the government’s handling of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

The name of the new political entity, assuming true, suggests that team Azmin wants to split PKR’s vote during the upcoming general election.
