A PAS MP has called out Pakatan Harapan (PH) for its hypocrisy over J-Kom, the controversial department for community communications.
Ahmad Yahaya (PN-Pokok Sena) said PH had gone “all out” in opposing the department previously.
“Previously, J-Kom was opposed for fear of it being used as the government’s political tool. Today, it’s been elevated and given the role akin to a cybertrooper to attack the opposition,” he said while debating the Supplies Bill 2023 today.
He also pointed out that PH had previously gone to the extent of wanting to reject Budget 2022 if J-Kom was given a large allocation.

In October 2021, PKR MP Wong Chen, who was involved in negotiations with Putrajaya on Budget 2022, told FMT that PH would consider a large allocation for J-Kom as a “deal breaker”.
Former Klang MP Charles Santiago urged Putrajaya to review the need for J-Kom, saying it would be better to spend the funds meant for it on areas that would generate jobs or to use the money to provide food for the needy.
Ahmad also slammed J-Kom director-general Agus Yusoff for being a vocal critic of PAS.
He said Agus had issued statements which described PAS as “radical”, “extremist”, as well as linking it to the Islamic State (IS).
“My question is, who is truly the face of J-Kom today?” he said.
Earlier, Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu) also asked about the role, vision and mission of J-Kom under the unity government.
“Will J-Kom become the official mouthpiece of the government instead of the official mouthpiece of political parties?” he said.
