BALIK PULAU: Police have opened an investigation into the discovery of pieces of burnt Al-Quran in the toilet of Umar Al-Khattab Mosque in Bayan Baru yesterday.
Southwest district police chief Superintendent A.A. Anbalagan said a man who found the burnt fragments of the text alerted a security guard at 5.25pm.
“They went to the toilet and confirmed that the fragments were indeed from the Al-Quran,” he said, adding that the security guard later lodged a police report on the incident.
He said checks showed that the mosque was regularly visited by Muslim residents in Bayan Baru and its surrounding areas.
“We were also told that the mosque is also visited by those with unstable mind,” he said.
Anbalagan added that while there were closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras around the mosque, none were located near the toilet.
“Anyway, investigation into the matter is ongoing, particularly in finding the suspect in the case,” he added.
