Umno Youth has urged PPBM to stop all attempts at “stealing and buying” over its members, following claims from its grassroots that it had offered between RM100 and RM5,000 for individuals to swap parties.

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said if this practice were to continue, it would confirm the perception that the purpose of PPBM and formation of Perikatan Nasional (PN) was to “weaken and replace” Umno.

Meanwhile, PPBM information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan told Asyraf to prove his claims of Umno members being offered money to ditch the party, saying it was a baseless and “wild allegation”.

“I demand that Asyraf apologise and retract his allegations immediately.

“I will also discuss with the party the necessity for legal action to be taken over this,” he said in a Facebook post.

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has urged PPBM to stop all attempts at “stealing and buying” over its members, following claims from its grassroots that it had offered between RM100 and RM5,000 for individuals to swap parties.

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said if this practice were to continue, it would confirm the perception that the purpose of PPBM and formation of Perikatan Nasional (PN) was to “weaken and replace” Umno.

“We should search for points of mutual understanding and settle our differences while putting an end to any efforts aimed at weakening each other, for the sake of greater unity,” he said in a statement today.

Instead of channelling its funds toward establishing its divisions, Asyraf said PPBM should focus its efforts on helping the people.

He added that the relationship between the two parties would only be made worse by the PPBM leadership’s excuse that Umno members were free to join the party, based on the principle of “openness”.

“Nearly all PPBM MPs, including those who ‘hopped’ from Umno, are now ministers or deputy ministers.

“The focus of all resources should instead be on helping the people who are suffering from the pandemic.”

Meanwhile, PPBM information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan told Asyraf to prove his claims of Umno members being offered money to ditch the party, saying it was a baseless and “wild allegation”.

“I demand that Asyraf apologise and retract his allegations immediately.
