The Pekan Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy division chief, Tengku Datuk Zainul Hisham Tengku Hussin has been sacked by the party for contesting the Chini-by-election as an independent candidate.
His sacking from the party was announced by party organising secretary Captain (Rtd) Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya in a letter which was sighted by the New Straits Times.
The 64-year-old, who is a businessman, will be using the “house” symbol and the manifesto “Becoming the Voice of the People of Chini”, describing the decision to contest after taking into account the feedback from Chini residents.
The Chini by-election is being held following the death of its incumbent Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Harun on May 6 at Kuala Lumpur Hospital of a heart attack.

“On June 20 (Saturday) YBhg. Dato’ was found to have submitted a candidate nomination form in the N23 Chini By-Election as an independent candidate without the permission and /or agreement of Bersatu.
“It is, therefore, noted that in accordance with Clauses 10.2.2 and 10.2.4 of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Constitution, the membership of YBhg. in Bersatu is herewith immediate effect ceases,” Suhaimi said in the letter.

The Election Commission (EC) has set June 20 as the nomination day for the by-election and June 30 as the day for early voting.
In the 14th general election, Abu Bakar who represented Barisan Nasional won the Chini state seat by 4,622 votes after gaining 10,027 votes while Pas’ Mohd Fadhil Noor Abdul Karim secured 5,405 votes, and Mohamad Razali Ithnain from PKR only garnered 1,065 votes.
