TTF: PPBM members have demanded Najib’s resignation despite the PM being cleared of corruption by five independent investigative teams, one of which even comprised members of the opposition. Yet, they refuse to suspend Mohd Zahid (let alone sack him) pending the completion of investigations into the FIC scandal
KUALA LUMPUR: Pribumi Bersatu (PPBM) will not sack its supreme council member who is being remanded in connection with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation of Felda Investment Corporation (FIC).
Instead, disciplinary action will only be taken against Mohd. Zahid Md. Arip only if he is found guilty in court.
Zahid, who was a special aide of former Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd. Isa Samad, was remanded from yesterday in connection with investigations into the purchase of hotels in London and Kuching by FIC four years ago.
“He (Zahid) is still a member of our supreme council. He is only helping the investigation,” said Pribumi Bersatu information chief Datuk Kamarudin Mohd. Nor, adding that it is unfair for critics to use Zahid’s remand to accuse Pribumi Bersatu of being a corrupt party.
“One important fact to note is that Pribumi Bersatu (PPBM) was not yet formed when the ‘crime’ took place. So it is not fair to equate Pribumi with certain corrupt parties,” pointed out Kamaruddin.
Apart from Zahid, former FIC chief executive officer Zaid Abdul Jalil has also been remanded.
Last week, two former key officers of a valuation firm were also arrested in connection with the deals.
