RJ Rithaudeen: Tun, UMNO and “The Walking Dead”

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad took PAS president Dato Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to task by pointing out that the Amanat Haji Hadi needed withdrawing before PAS could finalise its political cooperation with UMNO this Saturday.

However, it is ironical how disturbed a man can be about a party he himself declared was dead.

On the 30thof March 2018, Mahathir said the party which he had been part of for many years was dead as it had deviated far from its original goal of struggling for the country.

“I wish to admit this. We live in strange times. I was once Umno president, now I am criticising Umno. Why? Because Umno is already dead. What exists is not Umno, but a Najib party,” he said.

So how can Hadi’s decree be applicable to UMNO when the party no longer ‘exists’? Would that not render the decree null and void?

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad took PAS president Dato Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to task by pointing out that the Amanat Haji Hadi needed withdrawing before PAS could finalise its political cooperation with UMNO this Saturday.

According to Mahathir, the decree ran contrary to the spirit of cooperation which PAS and UMNO were attempting to forge given that it referred to UMNO as an infidel party.

“Pas, in the past, accused Umno ofbeing an infidel party.

“If they work with an infidel, than they too become an infidel.

“If you want to cooperate, then there is need to withdraw Amanat Haji Hadi, and state that Umno has returned to Islam.

“The statement (by Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang) is still there. He never pulled it back officially, he said.

That may be true.

However, it is ironical how disturbed a man can be about a party he himself declared was dead.

On the 30thof March 2018, Mahathir said the party which he had been part of for many years was dead as it had deviated far from its original goal of struggling for the country.

So how can Hadi’s decree be applicable to “Najib’s party?”

And why would you bother anyway, Tun?

Was it not you who abandoned UMNO by rubbing shoulders with the enemy instead of struggling from within to reform the party?

Did that not help ‘kill’ UMNO faster?

Focus on PPBM, Tun. Don’t spend too much time shedding crocodile tears for a party that you insist is already ‘dead’.
