Blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin (RPK) today agreed to return to Malaysia to face sedition and criminal defamation charges on condition that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abdul Hamid Bador, can guarantee his safety and assure him that the Government of Malaysia (GoM) will not persecute him with additional charges.
RPK added that he had been called a fugitive too many times and challenged to return and face charges.
“And that’s what I’m doing. I’m simply responding to requests, including by Amar, that I return to Malaysia to face the music.
“But if I’m proven guilty, the government must absolve Najib and Rosmah from any blame related to Altantuya’s murder with no questions asked.”
AMPANG JAYA: Blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin (RPK) today agreed to return to Malaysia to face sedition and criminal defamation charges on condition that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abdul Hamid Bador, can guarantee his safety and assure him that the Government of Malaysia (GoM) will not persecute him with additional charges.
In a statement published via Malaysia Today, the blogger, who is currently exiled in Manchester, Britain, cited the case of sacked deputy premier turned PKR president Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim who alleged that the criminal charges preferred against him by the previous Barisan Nasional administration were fabricated.
RPK recently wrote that Datuk Seri Amar Singh had applied for a Canadian citizenship.
The blogger’s offer to return home was in response to media reports quoting the retired police commissioner as saying the citizenship claim was a lie.
“RPK, you have now graduated to be a compulsive liar.
“I am residing at my house in Klang, and have no wish to seek citizenship anywhere else. I love my country Malaysia and am very happy here.
“I have no reason to seek citizenship elsewhere, nor do I need to hide behind the skirts of political asylum in another country. Can’t say the same to you Mr RPK,” Amar said.
To this, RPK responded by saying he was willing to return to Malaysia and plead guilty to charges of sedition and criminal defamation.
“I promise the Malaysian government that I will plead guilty to sedition and criminal defamation in that I falsely accused Najib and Rosmah of being involved in Altantuya’s murder and that I lied regarding Rosmah being there the night of the murder and that Najib and Rosmah are actually innocent and a victim of lies.
“Then I will go to jail to serve my sentence,” he wrote.
Speaking to TTF following the breaking of fast, the blogger added:
“If they want me to return to face charges, I will return to face charges.
“But let’s not forget the reason I was charged in the first place.
“The government claimed I lied regarding Najib’s and Rosmah’s involvement in Altantuya’s murder and want to charge me for sedition and criminal defamation.
“So, if I plead guilty, and I am willing to do so, that would prove Najib and Rosmah were not involved in the murder, that Mahathir and many other Pakatan Harapan leaders lied to the people.
“Are these leaders willing to admit that they lied?”
RPK then said he had been called a fugitive too many times.
“They keep challenging me to return, and that’s what I’m doing. I’m simply responding to requests, including by Amar, that I return to Malaysia to face the music.
“But if I’m proven guilty, the government must absolve Najib and Rosmah from any blame related to Altantuya’s murder with no questions asked.”
