“Now, he disowned Umno because he doesn’t like Datuk Seri Najib Razak. This cannot happen because Umno is not his party. Umno is a Malay party and our struggle is not for personal interest but for the Malay and Bumiputera”
KOTA BELUD: Umno will not invite Pakatan Harapan protem chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to rejoin the party, said an Umno supreme council member.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it was not an easy job for a former party member to make a comeback once he or she has joined another party.
“To rejoin the party, a person must go through a normal process and obtain approval. We have no desire to invite him (Dr Mahathir) to join Umno.
“His action to quit the party is unacceptable. Just like in the past, (Dr Mahathir) exited the party following a fight with late Tunku Abdul Rahman. He once again quit (the party) because he didn’t like Pak Lah (Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi).
“Now, he disowned Umno because he doesn’t like Datuk Seri Najib Razak. This cannot happen because Umno is not his party. Umno is a Malay party and our struggle is not for personal interest but for the Malay and Bumiputera,” he said.
Ismail was speaking to reporters in a press conference after launching the Kota Belud Umno division meeting at Dewan Tun Said, here.
Present were Kota Belud Umno deputy chief Datuk Musbah Jamli; Kota Belud Umno secretary Datuk Baharul Sawi; Kota Belud Umno youth chief Mohd Asrad Bistari; Kota Belud Wanita Umno chief Eyung Latun; and Kota Belud Puteri Umno chief Masnatu Satong.
On Friday, Dr Mahathir in a video clip said he would not rejoin Umno even if Najib steps down as the prime minister. The video was uploaded on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Facebok page.
Ismail stressed whoever exited Umno to oppose the party is considered enemy whether the person is a former prime minister, former deputy prime minister or a former minister.
