PKR has denied that it made available the mobile numbers of its leaders at the branch level, enabling sex video clips to be transmitted to their devices.
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said it was not difficult to acquire contact details and addresses of certain individuals and denied that the matter was orchestrated at the party’s central level.
Saifuddin said PKR hoped that Azmin would be strong in facing the challenges.
KOTA KINABALU: PKR has denied that it made available the mobile numbers of its leaders at the branch level, enabling sex video clips to be transmitted to their devices.
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said collection and maintenance of mobile numbers of PKR leaders were necessary for party operations.
“In the last party election, personal data collection (including mobile numbers of candidates) is a prerequisite to mobilise the election machinery.
“However, it is not our job to spread information and data of the party,” he said.
Saifuddin was speaking to reporters after attending the Aidilfitri open house here hosted by Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew.
Saifuddin was responding to PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s claim that someone in PKR, made available the contact numbers of PKR branch leaders and lower rank office bearers.
The mobile numbers were used in the creation of a Whatsapp group which also saw the inclusion of some media members and eventually saw the video clips of sexual acts involving two men being uploaded in the newly created group.
Azmin and PKR Santubong youth chief Haziq Aziz were implicated in the footage.
While Haziq openly confessed it was him in the video, Azmin has denied the allegation.
Saifuddin said it was not difficult to acquire contact details and addresses of certain individuals and denied that the matter was orchestrated at the party’s central level.
“PKR immediately held a political bureau meeting on the matter and decided to leave the case to police for better clarity,” he said.
Saifuddin said PKR hoped that Azmin would be strong in facing the challenges.
Also present at the open house was PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who held a brief meeting with party leaders.
Saifuddin said the meeting was to update members on the current political situation and not to be hasty in taking stance towards the incident.
