Salleh Keruak cautions people against scandlemongers

“We need to look far, and not to be preoccupied with trivial matters”

KOTA BELUD: Dato’ Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak cautioned the people against scandalmongers who were out to burn bridges of trust that bore the weight of truth.




Speaking at a Khatam Al-Quran and Tahlil recital here yesterday, the Communications and Multimedia Minister said people should be wise (to distinguish fact from fiction) and not buy into slander aimed at turning them against leaders who served them well.

“We need to look far, and not to be preoccupied with trivial matters.

“As such, I want to invite the people, especially Muslims to stay united and cooperate in the agenda to strengthen unity. With solid unity, Muslims will be stronger in facing any future challenges,” he said.

The minister then turned his attention to UMNO leaders, telling them to work together to fight for the people.

“Let us work together, serve the people regardless of the differences but in the spirit of 1Malaysia,” he said.

The programme, which included the breaking of fast for Zone 1 Sabah Umno (Kudat, Kota Marudu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), was officiated by Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Also in attendance were Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Departmenht Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, Tuaran Umno division chief , Datuk Hajiji Noor, Kota Marudu Umno division chief, Datuk Wetrom Bahanda and Kudat Umno division chief Datuk Bolkiah Ismail.

Commenting on the event, Salleh, who is also Kota Belud Umno division chief, said the programme could foster good relations between the leaders and people, especially in this zone.

“The programme is a platform for all of us to strengthen the unity of the community with differing cultures.

“This annual programme organised by the Sabah chief minister is the best avenue for Zone 1 to be united and cooperate under the flagship of the Barisan Nasional (BN) to prosper the people of various backgrounds and culture,” he added.

The minister added that the programme reflected the chief minister’s high commitment to serve the people in this zone.
