The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has placed several high-profile personalities from Sarawak under its microscopes to examine possible instances of corruption and power abuse involving them.

Speaking to reporters at the staging of musical theatre “Semarak Pertiwiku” at the Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce auditorium in Batu Lintang, Kuching, MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said the cases are many and investigations are as yet ongoing.

Last month, DAP’s Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei urged new MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya to investigate Sarawak’s “big fish” for corruption.

State Reform Party Sarawak and Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru had also called on Latheefa to go after corrupt politicians in the state.

SUBANG JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has placed several high-profile personalities from Sarawak under its microscopes to examine possible instances of corruption and power abuse involving them.

A well-placed source told TTF that the personalities include those who are in the Sarawak government this very moment and isn’t exclusive to former Barisan Nasonal politicians.

“Yes, there are high profile (corruption) cases involving VIPs here but I cannot reveal any details. Otherwise, it will jeopardize our investigation,” she said.

When asked if the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is also the former Sarawak Chief Minister was among the “big fish”, Latheefa declined to comment further.

“There are so many cases and you have to tell me if there’s such a complaint and we will look into it.

“I don’t deny there are cases involving high profile personalities including YBs but we can’t disclose their names until we complete our investigation.

“We will make an announcement once we can (have sufficient evidence) charge them,” she said.

She added there is time-frame set for investigation papers to be completed and it is on a case by case basis.

Therefore, there is such thing as “endless” or “incomplete” investigations.
