PETRA JAYA: The Sarawak government will review the entry ban placed on several individuals, including three federal ministers.
The trio who are on the immigration blacklist include Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, Economic Affairs Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraidah Kamaruddin.
Others on the list include Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown, Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament (MP) Nurul Izzah Anwar dan PKR vice president Mohd Rafizi Ramli.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg said Clare was barred from entering the state since the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s administration.
“She was in the list since my predecessor’s (Adenan) time and her name is still there. I have not decided if we will lift the ban and allow her here (to enter Sarawak),” he told the reporters at after the ‘Sumbangsih Kuih Raya’ event at the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today.
Abang Johari said at least 37 politicians from various political parties in the Peninsula are not allowed into Sarawak, including controversial academician Professor Dr Mohd Ridhuan Tee.
The other politicians on the list were Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos and Pasir Mas MP Datuk Ibrahim Ali.
Sarawak has the autonomy to regulate its immigration powers as listed in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Among the reasons that the state government often used to prevent certain individuals from entering Sarawak was their potential to undermine the harmony of the multi-racial and religious state.
