Hamidah’s resignation comes days after her sister Hamizura’s racially-charged Facebook post sparked outrage by some party leaders
PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) vice president Datuk Hamidah Osman became the second high-profile member to quit the party on Saturday.
Hamidah’s exit comes after Pribumi founding member Anina Saadudin announced her resignation from the party earlier on Saturday.
Pribumi secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh said the party and supreme council agreed to Hamidah’s resignation as vice president, committee chief of Pribumi’s Gopeng division, and Pribumi party member.
“PPBM respects her decision and records our highest appreciation and gratitude for her contributions to PPBM over the years,” Shahruddin said in a statement on Saturday.
“We wish that Datuk Hamidah Osman will continue to prosper and continue to support the struggle against falsehood and to uphold the truth,” he added.
Hamidah’s resignation comes days after her sister Hamizura’s racially-charged Facebook post sparked outrage by some party leaders.
Hamizura on Wednesday wrote that the Malays should not allow the Chinese to “step” on them.
She has since apologised to the Chinese community for her racist comments.
