Selangor Palace suspends titles bestowed to Najib and Rosmah

The Selangor Palace has suspended the titles it had bestowed to both former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor pending the outcome of their court cases.

Najib was conferred with the Keahlian Darjah Kebesaran Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) First Class which carries the title “Datuk Seri” in 2004 and Darjah Kebesaran Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS) Second Class which carries the title “Datuk” in 1992.


KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Palace has suspended the titles it had bestowed to both former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor pending the outcome of their court cases.

In a statement today, Selangor state secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya said the suspension which was issued through a decree by Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, had been in effect since May 6.

Najib and Rosmah have been charged with offences relating to graft and money laundering, among others.


“The powers of suspension is vested in His Majesty’s authority under the Selangor State Constitution 1959, Titles and Honours statute, and the convention adopted in Selangor.

“The suspension will be reviewed after the case(s) has been finalised at the court,” Mohd Amin said in a statement.

Najib was conferred with the Keahlian Darjah Kebesaran Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) First Class which carries the title “Datuk Seri” in 2004 and Darjah Kebesaran Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS) Second Class which carries the title “Datuk” in 1992.

Rosmah was conferred with the title Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) First Class which carries “Datin Paduka Seri” in 2005.

In the same statement, it was also announced that former NGV Tech Sdn. Bhd executive chairman and director Zulkifli Shariff has been stripped of his award Darjah Kebesaran Dato’ – Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (DSIS) after was he was announced bankrupt by the Insolvency Department.

Zulkifli had received the award in 2010 which carries the title “Datuk”.
