TTF: Nine years under the Lim Guan Eng administration, and Penangites have yet to hear something like this (see news item below) come out from the Chief Minister’s mouth. Yet, he and his father claim Pakatan Harapan has what it takes to save Malaysia???
TASEK GELUGOR: The federal government will address issues faced by all flood victims in Pulau Pinang.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said everyone affected by the flash floods in Penang, including those who did not have to evacuate to relief centres, needed help as the floodwater that inundated their homes had damaged their property and household items.
“For those who did not evacuate, their household appliances were damaged…everything will be dealt with accordingly,” he told reporters after visiting the relief centre at Sekolah Agama Nyiur Sebatang here today.
He said the floods that struck Penang were the worst in history, involving 12,559 victims, and currently, they were doing an estimate of the damage faced.
Shahidan emphasised that during the post-flood period victims needed assistance in cleaning their residence and ensuring that outbreak of waterborne diseases did not occur.
As such, he said, various parties such as non-governmental organisations, government political parties and the opposition as well as volunteers had mobilised their members in flood-ravaged areas to help in the clean-up of residences.
“The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) has also provided a sufficient supply of water jets to all affected areas. For areas feared for the presence of snakes, the public can inform APM and they will help resolve the problem,? Shahidan noted, adding that he had also requested assistance from the National Disaster Management Agency and Social Welfare Department to ensure that the aid received reached the flood victims.
