Sodomy 2019: After Otai Reformasi, Anwar plays “good cop bad cop” with pol-sec on Azmin’s exit

On Sunday, Anwar said no action would be taken yet on the Santubong PKR Youth chief as the party preferred wait for police investigations to finish and did not want to make hasty decisions by punishing someone innocent. Source (pic): TTF

Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, ramped up pressure on Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali to step down as party deputy president should the evidence be overwhelmingly against him.

However, on the 14thof June 2019, Anwar iterated that pressuring Azmin to resign would not have a positive impact on the leadership of PKR and the country but would instead aggravate the situation.

PKR has had a brilliant history of “good cop bad cop” theatrics where someone known to be an Anwar apologist would say one thing while Anwar would say the exact opposite. It’s prominent in the Rafizi Ramli camp.

SUBANG JAYA: Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, ramped up pressure on Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali to step down as party deputy president should the evidence be overwhelmingly against him.

According to Farhash, Azmin should make an exit as PKR deputy chief as the gay sex video said to feature him and Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz was causing a lot of problems in the party.

“This whole fiasco is turning into a circus, and they are implicating everyone, including me,” Farhash said when contacted by theSun.

“It is time those responsible own up and put the matter to rest, so we can move on to more pressing issues.”

It is not clear what Anwar’s position is on this.

However, on the 14thof June 2019, the PKR president did say that pressuring Azmin to resign would not have a positive impact on the leadership of the party and country but would instead aggravate the situation.

“I do not agree that Mohamed Azmin should take a break from carrying out his government and party duties like called for by certain parties including the Otai Reformasi reform movement, in fact, this was not discussed at PKR’s political bureau meeting.

“We (in PKR) do not stop people from criticising because the party practices a free political culture. Everyone can put forward their views, but my advice is to make less statements and give way to the investigations that are already ongoing,” he said.

It was the same story in Haziq’s case.

Previously, Otai Reformasi took a swipe at Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad by demanding that the Prime Minister give an exact timeframe for his exit from government to pave the way for Anwar to replace him.

Anwar came out later to state his disagreement and cited that Mahathir had given assurance that he would exit when ready, stopping short only of telling Otai to “stop pressuring the Prime Minister.”
