THE THIRD FORCE
There is something big brewing at the Bar Council, something that’s likely to boil over during the council’s Annual General Meeting at 10 am today.
According to a well-placed source, a contentious proposal by a certain Ravinder Singh Dhalliwal to increase the representation of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur based practitioners – the majority being non-Malays – may see the light of day and water down the rise of Malay lawyers holding office in the council.
A fact-check revealed that the motion to decide on the proposal numbered at nine – bottom-most on the list of agendas – with the source revealing that those associated with the preparation of the list were aware that the majority of Malay lawyers tended to leave early.
According to the source further, those involved with the drafting of the proposal went to great lengths to ensure that as many junior lawyers and those chambering would fill the assembly hall later today to make sure that the proposal would meet with success.
