“With relevant information from the public and our continuing investigation, it is the intention of Suhakam to use this information to take this process further”
KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — The Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) has launched its own probe into the alleged “forced disappearance” of four pastors and activist that has remained unsolved for months.
Suhakam chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail said in a statement today that it will use its statutory mandate and powers to investigate the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh, Pastor Joshua Hilmi, and Muslim activist Amri Che Mat.
“Suhakam observes that much needs to be done considering these cases of missing persons and disappearances remain unsolved, with mounting public anxiety,” he said.
Suhakam is calling for people who have relevant and important information regarding the disappearances to come forward and have their statements recorded by Suhakam before July 7.
“With relevant information from the public and our continuing investigation, it is the intention of Suhakam to use this information to take this process further,” he said.
Individuals can also have their statements recorded through phone by contacting its Complaints Division at 019-3338490.
Suhakam also urged authorities to “expeditiously” investigate all cases where there is reasonable suspicion of an “enforced disappearance”.
Raymor Koh was abducted on February 13, while the others have been missing since late 2016.
