PETALING JAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was called up by Bukit Aman today to give a statement over an alleged seditious remark he made during an interview with an international television station last March.

According to Bernama, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department assistant director (Prosecution and Legal) DCP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed that Syed had been summoned to appear in Bukit Aman at about 2.30 pm today to facilitate the investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act,” he said.

Syed has since confirmed that he was called up by Bukit Aman regarding a statement he made during an interview with Al-Jazeera’s Mehdi Hassan.

“The interview was for Al Jazeera and aired on March 6 (almost fours months back). I am ready to give full cooperation to the police,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Free Malaysia Today quoted the former Youth and Sports Minister as saying the Perikatan Nasional led government was behind the probe.

“I don’t want to speculate but this must be the work of this government. The interview was aired four months ago.”

Syed was reported as saying Bukit Aman showed him two footages from the interview.

“The first one showed me commenting that Dr Mahathir Mohamad did not agree to bring down the PH government with a government associated with kleptocracy.
