Suggestions have been raised by factions allied to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the posts of PPBM Chairman, President and Deputy President to remain uncontested.

Speaking to reporters at parliament lobby today, Mahathir’s son, Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, confirmed rumours of a suggestion by some grassroots for the party’s top posts to be uncontested at its third annual general meeting (AGM) later in the year.

Mahathir, who holds the Chairman post, is facing pressure to step down by a shadow movement led by PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The movement comprises chiefly of division heads from Johor and Malacca and is considering throwing a surprise motion of no confidence against Mahathir in an upcoming party Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM).

KUALA LUMPUR: Suggestions have been raised by factions allied to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the posts of PPBM Chairman, President and Deputy President to remain uncontested.

Mahathir, who holds the party chair, is facing pressure to step down by a shadow movement led by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The movement is much like the one the former deputy premier initiated and nurtured in UMNO ahead of the 14thgeneral election to trigger its downfall.

The movement comprises chiefly of division heads from Johor and Malacca and is considering throwing a surprise motion of no confidence against Mahathir in an upcoming Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM).

Another option the movement is considering is to suggest that the Prime Minister stands down. But team Mahathir is determined to end Muhyiddin’s career and wants the Prime Minister to replace the latter as party president.

Speaking to reporters at parliament lobby today, Mahathir’s son, Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, confirmed rumours of a suggestion by some grassroots for the party’s top posts to remain uncontested at its third annual general meeting (AGM) later in the year.

“At least for the chairman’s post… I think it is a given that we still want him (Dr Mahathir) as our chairman,” said Mukhriz, who confirmed that he intends to defend his deputy presidency.

“Of course, if there is anyone who is nominated to these positions, they will be allowed to contest.”

Team Muhyiddin is convinced that Mukhriz does not have what it takes to lead PPBM and wants him removed as deputy president.

Chatters of an attempt by Mahathir to place PPBM under Mukhriz’s control have repeatedly surfaced during party events.

Rest assured, PPBM can expect the no-contest motion to be raised during the party’s upcoming EGM on the 20th this month.

On the 28th of April 2019, TTF wrote:

All 26 division heads of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in Johor today gave their support to Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal on his appointment as the new Johor Menteri Besar.

This isn’t merely a show of support towards Shahruddin, but a message by the state’s PPBM leadership that it is firmly behind Muhyiddn and Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and is ever ready to wage a war against Mahathir to defend the Palace of Johor.

For the record, Johor currently has the largest number of MPs from PPBM compared to all other states in the peninsula of Malaysia and Sabah.

It is said that party MPs from Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Penang are also with team Muhyiddin-Anwar and are contemplating an EGM to boot Mahathir out from the party.

In 1998, things were quite easy for the old man, as the person he wanted to oust, Anwar, did not enjoy the support of the palaces and was not a big gun in any of the nine Malay states.

Muhyiddin, however, shares a rapport with the Palace of Johor and enjoys strong grassroots support in the state.
