Thanks to Shukri, the MACC is currently facing a credibility deficit

TTF: MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull should quit lying through his teeth and admit that the Special Task Force (STF) into 1MDB ordered the arrest of Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak. Shukri should be made to understand that the MACC currently suffers a serious credibility deficit owing to his refusal to step down as agency chief.

So rather than defend the STF, Shukri should instead be focused on defending himself and the agency. The longer he stays on as MACC chief, the bigger will be the talk of conspiracy between him and Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz (READ HERE). The only way he can reverse that talk is if he were to withdraw the charges preferred by the MACC against Najib and let someone else take over the agency to probe him.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said the statement by the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) task force yesterday missed out on the word ‘MACC’ in confirming the arrest of former Premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The statement which said ‘the 1MDB task force confirms the arrest of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’ should have read ‘the 1MDB task force confirms that MACC has arrested Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’.

This matter was clarified today by the commission’s chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull.

“It is a non-issue. The word ‘MACC’ was inadvertently left out, that’s all,” Mohd Shukri told NST today.

The statement yesterday also informed Najib would be charged today.

The Malaysian Bar had criticised the statement, saying that the task force had no authority to decide if Najib was to be charged or when he would be charged.
