THE THIRD FORCE
Let us assume for a moment that a guy by the name Mark is pronounced dead. We know for sure he is dead because a fisherman found his body afloat on a river. Now, let us further assume that the police do not rule out anything despite post mortem results revealing that the man drowned. Then, suddenly, from out of nowhere, Dr Mahathir Mohamad appears and tells us that Mark was in fact murdered.
Immediately, the opposition controlled media goes into frenzy with suppositions, conjectures and insinuations, all flying straight in the face of government. When asked how he knows, Mahathir replies that his sources told him so. When asked who the sources are, he keeps mum and says that he’s willing to go to jail to “keep their identities secret.”
Within days, the social media is abuzz with rumours of how Mark was on the verge of making public some secrets that would have destroyed Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The tendency for netizens to create such rumours is a foregone conclusion – these days, the Prime Minister is blamed for anything and everything, including the steamroller that ran over Mickey Mouse in yesterday’s Looney Tunes episode.
Then, all of a sudden, it’s game over.
The Attorney-General issues a warrant of arrest for Najib based on a charge sheet he fabricates together with the Prime Minister’s deputy. Once Najib is arrested, the IGP tells newsmen that the police have sufficient reason to believe that the Prime Minister instructed his men to murder Mark. Then, before you can even scream “What??,” Mahathir is quickly named the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
See a pattern yet?
First, there is the exaggeration which the social media blows to kingdom come. Next, you have the moles in UMNO who are ever ready to do Mahathir’s bidding. Finally, you have the surprise attack even the Prime Minister does not see coming. Of the three, which do you think Lim Kit Siang could afford?
None.
Up until the moment he joined hands with the former premier, he lacked inside info from UMNO to sabotage the party. Which is why, everything that came from the Emperor’s fortress prior to the union was horribly twisted. Thanks to his Red Bean Army (RBA), many of Mahathir’s exaggerations were weaved with such fantasy, they turned into the kind of tales you’d only expect to get from the crypt.
For instance, if Mahathir were to say Mark was murdered, the RBA would go the extra mile by saying the latter was killed by Najib’s own son or daughter. The alegations used to be so serious, the Prime Minister’s men trained all their guns at the RBA and ignored the former premier altogether.
And therein the irony.
Mahathir’s “surprise attacks” on Najib used to work because his moles got stuff done beneath the shadows. Thanks to Emperor Lim, the spotlight was always on the RBA and not the former premier. That allowed Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to play in the shadows while the (then) head of the MACC fabricated a charge sheet against Najib.
So you see, Mahathir was very effective back when he used to work solo. In short, there no longer are ‘shadows’ for Mahathir’s moles to dance in. The spotlight is forever on the former premier and the Emperor, thanks to the RBA and its sheer stupidity. If not for these guys, Najib would never have discovered all the moles he now knows exist in UMNO in time to prepare the party for the upcoming general election (GE14).
Now, doesn’t that make Emperor Lim such a great guy?
