This is how Muhyiddin checkmated himself and the reason he has no choice but to tender his resignation today

1. Many have asked me if Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is actually going to tender his resignation to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong today.

2. Some even asked if the Prime Minister needs to do so as his majority has yet to be tested in parliament.

3. On that note, let me be absolutely clear that there is more than one way to skin a cat, and that parliament isn’t the only avenue for a Prime Minister to prove his majority.

4. Let us not forget that Muhyiddin himself admitted live on national television that he lacks majority support, which amounts to testimony on Muhyiddin’s part that he lacks the constitutional right to lead government.

5. It follows, the need for Muhyiddin to prove his majority in parliament no longer arises, as Muhyiddin himself has – using his position as Prime Minister and a government-supported TV channel – affirmed the lack of that majority.

6. Besides, there is nothing in the Federal Constitution of Malaysia that stops the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong from seeking proof outside parliament to find out whether Muhyiddin has a majority.

7. In other words, the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong is at liberty to meet up with Members of Parliament who signed Statutory Declarations against Muhyiddin to seek confirmation that they no longer support him.

8. As we have been made to understand, His Royal Highness has already been presented with evidence that Muhyiddin lacks majority support and has even hinted that the Prime Minister needs to tender his resignation.

9. That having been said, points numbered 5 and 6 are sufficient-enough-reasons for Muhyiddin to tender his resignation.

10. The fact that a senior PPBM leader told Malaysiakini early on yesterday that Muhyiddin would tender his resignation today is all the more reason for Muhyiddin to do so.

10. If the senior PPBM leader had lied or if the news published by Malaysiakini was inaccurate, Muhyiddin had all the time in the world to make that clear, in no uncertain terms, with the same zest and zeal his government denied other pieces of information yesterday despite having less time to do so.
