President Donald Trump escalated pressure on Cuba on Sunday, warning that the island risks losing all remaining access to oil and financial support unless it agrees to terms with Washington.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump issued an explicit ultimatum, declaring:

“THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA – ZERO! I strongly suggest they make a deal, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

“Cuba lived, for many years, on large amounts of OIL and MONEY from Venezuela.”

That dynamic has shifted sharply following the U.S. operation that resulted in the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro.

I strongly suggest they make a deal, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”

The statement framed Cuba’s economic vulnerability through its long-standing dependence on Venezuela, which for years supplied Havana with heavily subsidized oil. Trump underscored that relationship, writing:

“Cuba lived, for many years, on large amounts of OIL and MONEY from Venezuela.”

That dynamic has shifted sharply following the U.S. operation that resulted in the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro.

In the aftermath, Trump has moved to redirect Venezuelan oil flows, including securing shipments to the United States, effectively cutting off a critical lifeline for Caracas’ regional allies.

The warning to Havana comes as the administration broadens its campaign to isolate governments aligned with Venezuela’s former leadership. Venezuela’s vast petroleum reserves — the largest proven reserves in the world — had long allowed it to project influence across Latin America by underwriting allies’ energy needs.

Trump’s strategy now centers on dismantling that leverage.

As part of that effort, the president convened senior executives from U.S. and international energy firms at the White House on Friday.

The meeting included companies involved across Venezuela’s oil supply chain, from production to refining and trading.

According to individuals familiar with the discussions, Trump pledged to position American companies at the center of Venezuela’s future oil production and export operations, signaling a broader realignment of regional energy control following the collapse of the country’s previous government.
