The Government of Malaysia (GoM) has imposed a total lockdown in two areas within Simpang Renggam, Johor, due to a high number of Covid-19 cases there.
The lockdown involves Kg Dato’ Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato’ Ibrahim Majid and will affect 3,570 residents.
According to Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the move, dubbed an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), will last until the 9th of April 2020.
The nationwide imposed Movement Control Order (MCO) is now entering its 10th day and has succeeded in keeping the ratios of Covid-19 cases to population and deaths to cases among the lowest in the world.
SUBANG JAYA: The Government of Malaysia (GoM) has imposed a total lockdown in two areas within Simpang Renggam, Johor, due to a high number of Covid-19 cases there.
The lockdown involves Kg Dato’ Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato’ Ibrahim Majid and will affect 3,570 residents.
The areas have clocked 61 cases, far exceeding the national average of cases to population by a factor of 250.
According to Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the move, dubbed an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), will last until the 9th of April 2020.
Ismail said the move was considered after 61 of the 83 cases reported in Kluang were discovered to have originated from the two areas.
Ismail added that authorities would distribute basic food and necessities with the help of the Social Welfare Department to some 650 families during the lockdown.
