This brings us back to the story of the 3-19 shooting incident (Chinese: 三一九槍擊事件) was an assassination attempt on President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu while they were campaigning in Tainan, Taiwan on 19 March 2004, the day before Taiwan’s presidential election. Their injuries were not life-threatening, and both Chen and Lu were released from Chi-Mei Hospital on the same day without losing consciousness or undergoing surgery.
The attack provoked shock and unease in Taiwan. Many people believing the incident was faked in order to win the sympathy of voters in the upcoming election, which Chen and Lu won by 29,500 votes.
Many painted the incident as a sham staged to boost sympathy for Chen and win the election, arguing that the wounds inflicted upon the President and Vice President were improbably light and citing various perceived irregularities in the chronology of events and the physical and photographic evidence.
Is Mahathir planning a similar incident or suddenly fall sick to gain sympathy votes in an attempt to win the election?
BTW, Chen Shui-bian comes from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) physically looks a lot like Lim Guan Eng of our Democratic Action Party (DAP) – with both having the same brylcreem-powered hair-style and spectacles.
Chen Shui-Bian won after he had frequently accused the then ruling Kuomintang party of corruption but in the end he was charged and received a life sentence for embezzlement, bribery and money laundering involving.
