Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s betrayal of UMNO and his deception of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong should top the list of topics to be debated or discussed during the upcoming UMNO general assembly.
This includes Zahid’s breach of the UMNO constitution when he agreed to work with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the DAP.
During the previous UMNO general assembly, delegates came to a consensus that UMNO would not work with Anwar or the DAP.
Zahid then gave assurance that UMNO would do no such thing, simultaneously establishing the prohibition as a matter of policy.
On the heels of the 15th general election, Zahid even chaired a Barisan Nasional supreme council meeting that assured all Members of Parliament (MPs) that Barisan Nasional would not support Pakatan Harapan or Perikatan Nasional.
However, the very next day, he quietly sent a letter to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, falsely alleging that all Barisan Nasional MPs supported Anwar as the 10th Prime Minister.
When the MPs heard this, they blew their tops, and some even demanded that Zahid resign as Barisan Nasional chairman and UMNO president.
However, Zahid justified his actions by stating that the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong had decreed that all Barisan Nasional MPs should be a part of the “unity government” bloc.
But it is obvious that Zahid had deceived the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong first, leading the Ruler to believe that all Barisan Nasional MPs were ready to support an Anwar-led government.
Naturally, the Ruler would have decreed for Barisan Nasional to proceed, thinking that what Zahid had told him was the truth.
It is not important which MP had supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin prior to Zahid’s audience with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.
This is because the matter was resolved during the Barisan Nasional supreme council meeting the night before Zahid met the Ruler, where everyone agreed that Barisan Nasional would remain in the opposition.
What is important now is for delegates to decide if Zahid should be sacked for betraying the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and UMNO and for breaching the UMNO constitution.
