Not many are aware that the Mandarin section of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s website, which is purely a translated version of an original Malay language site, was reactivated after being suspended in 2018.

This was confirmed by the agency itself in response to recent political criticism, including from UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

On Sunday, Asyraf took the MACC to task by saying his division viewed the the existence of the Mandarin site seriously as it contravened the 1963/67 National Language Act.

According to the act, the national language needs to be used for official matters.

However, the Federal Constitution in no way prohibits anyone from including translations of official documents that have already been dealt with using the National Language.

This is what Asyraf failed to mention.

Asyraf also skated over the fact that the Mandarin section had been in existence since 2015 under the administration of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and was widely accepted by all UMNO leaders.

The UMNO youth chief further concealed the fact that the MACC does have an official site in the national language, used for official maters in accordance with the 1963/67 National Language Act.

It appears that UMNO is deliberately politicising the Mandarin issue so as to gain ground in Muslim-Bumiputra areas in Sabah ahead of the upcoming Sabah election.

The existence of the Mandarin site since 2015 was confirmed by MACC deputy chief commissioner Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil himself after receiving a letter of protest from Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).

Like UMNO, Putra wilfully took offence with the MACC over the matter when the correct thing to do would have been to explain to members of public that the Mandarin site was initiated under the Najib administration.

Day by day, UMNO appears to becoming more and more racist and will stop at nothing to play the race card.
