UMNO in crisis: It’s pro-Najib-Anwar vs pro-Mahathir

A news report has surfaced claiming that Tan Sri Apandi Ali is resigning from his post as Umno disciplinary board chairman.

According to the report, Apandi was displeased with ‘interference’ by certain quarters in a hearing against former UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

Several quarters in UMNO have trained their guns at Hishammuddin over his alleged wheeling and dealing with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

Ironically, these quarters have left Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz unscathed despite his open support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the latter’s Port Dickson by-election campaign.

The same quarters seeking for Hishammuddin’s sacking have also been very vocal against Azmin’s alleged involvement in a sex scandal but refuse to utter a word against Anwar with regards to Yusoff Rawther’s sexual assault claim against the PKR president.

PETALING JAYA: A news report has surfaced claiming that Tan Sri Apandi Ali is resigning from his post as Umno disciplinary board chairman.

According to the report, Apandi was displeased with ‘interference’ by certain quarters in a hearing against former UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“As a result of this development, I have directed the secretary of the [disciplinary] board to prepare my resignation letter as the chairman and it will take effect immediately.

“I am not willing to be made kuda tunggangan. My dignity is greater than the position,” Apandi was quoted as saying.

The report further states that Apandi is currently overseas and will be signing his resignation letter upon his return next week.

“I did not order the postponement [of the hearing]. There is something wrong here,” he told Malay Mail, but did not name who made the decision.

Ironically, these quarters have left Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz unscathed despite his open support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the latter’s Port Dickson by-election campaign.

Nazri had openly campaigned for Anwar during the poll and even admitted to reporters that he was “an Anwar man.”
