Warisan vice president Datuk Junz Wong brought Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan down a peg today, reminding him that most people in the state are not rich like him.

The majority of Sabahans are however not rich like him, Wong said, adding, most were struggling to cope with the economic effects of the Covid-19 lockdown measures.

“But what are Jeffrey and his friends from Semenanjung doing? They are busy playing political games to fulfill their own greed and lust at the expense of Sabah,” he said.

His missive came on the heels of a statement Jeffrey made yesterday in which he had described as far-fetched stories claims that government assemblymen were being harassed to cross the floor with offers of money and position.

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan vice president Datuk Junz Wong brought Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan down a peg today, reminding him that most people in the state are not rich like him.

“Jeffrey may have more than RM20 million in assets as declared recently,” he said.

“He is a multi-millionaire who can afford to play political games for more power and more wealth.”

“In his obsession with political games, Jeffrey has forgotten that tourism plays a big part in Sabah’s economy,” he said, taking a swipe at the Sabah Star president who is federal deputy minister of tourism, arts and culture.

“But what has he done for Sabah’s tourism?”

His missive came on the heels of a statement Jeffrey made yesterday in which he had described as far-fetched stories claims that government assemblymen were being harassed to cross the floor with offers of money and position.

“Just because his generation of leaders could be easily bought during his time, it does not not mean we can be easily bought now,” said Wong.

“What Sabah is proud to have now is a generation of leaders who are principled and have a steadfast political struggle for Sabah. This is Sabah Baru.

“Jeffrey has indirectly and openly admitted that they have been trying to buy off YBs to grab power. This is ethically so wrong.

“Then he said that we ended up hiding our YBs from being enticed by them.

“This is just downright low to openly tell people that they are trying to buy YBs, and when rejected, he turns and says we are hiding YBs.”

Wong reminded Jeffrey that this was not the time for political manoeuvres.

“Jeffrey should stop embarrassing himself and his followers,” he said.
