A senior Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer gave details of how some main individuals involved in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case, including Low Taek Jho @ Jho Low, fled the country from 2015.
The 54-year old who started investigations into the abuse of SRC International funds since July 6, 2015, said Low left the country on May 29, 2015, through the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.
However, it was not disclosed where the billionaire, who also holds a St Kitts and Nevis citizenship, had flown to.
Rosli said MACC did get to talk to Low once and it happened in Abu Dhabi.
KUALA LUMPUR: A senior Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer, Rosli Hussain, gave details of how some main individuals involved in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case, including Low Taek Jho @ Jho Low, fled the country from 2015.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Rosli Hussain also outlined efforts which had been taken to trace the fugitives, who included four close associates of Low and also SRC International chief executive officer (CEO) Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil.
This, he said, included putting them on the Immigration blacklist and also listing their names on the Interpol Red Notice.
A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender or similar legal action against a wanted person.
The graft buster said the Red Notice was put up in several places where the fugitives were believed to be hiding, including Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and China.
Rosli, who is the 57th prosecution witness, said this in his examination-in-chief conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Ishak Mohd Yusoff.

“We recorded his statement there on Nov 27, 2015,” he said, adding Low had then given his commitment to return to Malaysia and cooperate in the case.
However, he said, Low failed to keep his promise and MACC has been looking for him since.
Rosli said MACC had searched for Low in his last known address in Tanjung Bungah, Penang, but could not locate him or his family.
“We have also placed notices for information on his whereabouts in the print and electronic media but no one has come forward to assist us,” he said, adding that Bukit Aman had previously sought their counterparts in Hong Kong to look for Low at the Maggie & Rose Family Members Club but he could not be located.
Questioned on Nik Faisal, Rosli said the CEO of SRC International fled the country on May 7, 2018, two days before the 14th General Election, which saw Barisan Nasional (BN) being ousted from the government.
Rosli said Nik Faisal took a flight out of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.
MACC, he said, also managed to talk to Nik Faisal and recorded his statements twice.
“We met him in Jakarta and recorded his statements on Oct 17, 2015, and again towards the end of the same month.
“He too pledged to return to help in our investigations but he never did,” he said, adding MACC had been looking for Nik Faisal since and had also placed him under the Interpol Red Notice.
Rosli said MACC had also tried to locate Low’s associates Terrence Geh Choh Heng, Eric Tan Kim Loong, Casey Tang Keng Chee and Jasmine Loo Ai Swan, who all left the country in 2015 and in May last year.
He said arrest warrants had been issued against all of them and assistance was sought from Interpol to locate them.
Rosli will continue his testimony tomorrow.
Najib, 66, is on trial for misappropriating RM42 million of SRC International funds, abuse of power and criminal breach of trust.
He faces 20 years’ jail and fine for the offences.
