Lim Kit Siang realises that Pakatan Harapan’s strategy is not working. He initially thought that the PAS breakaway party, PAN, and the Umno breakaway party, PPBM, would be able to take away the Malay votes from PAS and Umno. But that is not happening. While PAS and Umno combined have about 5 million members, PAN and PPBM combined have less than 50,000. That alone shows their strategy has failed.
Pakatan Harapan needs at least 112 parliament seats to form the federal government. And this can only happen if they win the Malay seats plus seats from East Malaysia. Kit Siang thought that DAP’s Malay pawns such as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin Yassin and Mukhriz Mahathir could attract the Malay votes. He now realise that is not happening.
That is why Kit Siang is now trying to attract the Malay votes directly by downplaying race and religion. But then he contradicts this by telling the Chinese to reject Umno and PAS because of race and religion. And In the past it was DAP that said a vote for MCA and Gerakan is a vote for the Malays. DAP is sending conflicting messages to the voters.
