#TTFCovid19: Singapore has registered more than 10,000 Covid-19 cases owing to a surge in infections among migrant workers living in dormitories.
As of noon, the island republic recorded 1,016 new cases, bringing the total number of Coronvirus infections to 10,141.
Yesterday, the Government of Singapore extended its equivalent of the Malaysian Movement Control Order (MCO) – known as the “circuit-breaker” – for a month ending the 1st of June 2020.
In a televised address to the nation, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the aim was to “decisively” bring down the number of coronavirus cases in the community and to ensure that Singapore can detect “leakage” from foreign worker dormitories to the wider community should it occur.

Singapore also said it would halt daily movement of workers in and out of all dormitories, including those that are purpose built, factory converted or temporary quarters for construction laborers.
“The large number of cases at the dorms is a serious problem,” Lee said, adding, “To assess the extent of the spread, we have tested aggressively.
“Not only those who reported sick, or showed fever or flu symptoms, but also those who were well and asymptomatic.”
