“It doesn’t mean that when someone joins the Opposition they are clean”
PETALING JAYA: S. Arutchelvan has asked the Opposition if their only concern is toppling prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) Committee member said that when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was Prime Minister, he did not implement a minimum wage, brought down the unions, privatised basic infrastructure and used the Internal Secutiry Act (ISA) on his opponents.
“Until today, he is not repentant and has not apologised but all that is not important. The only important thing is to defeat Najib. Issues of principles, justice, truth and others are all placed behind,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
He said that there were lots of issues that needed to be investigated during Mahathir’s time.
“It doesn’t mean that when someone joins the Opposition they are clean,” he said on Wednesday.
Mahathir was announced as the chairman of Pakatan Harapan last week, alongside with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as de-facto leader and Datuk Seri Wan Azizah as its president.
Anwar was deputy prime minister under Dr Mahathir, but was sacked by the latter in 1998.
Arutchelvan said that the leadership structure in the Opposition coalition was not clear and would pose a problem.
