PETALING JAYA: UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s daughter and son-in-law will be charged soon with violating the Movement Control Order (MCO).
This was revealed by federal police Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Huzir Mohamed, who said the duo will be charged with violating Regulation 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
Previously, on the 25th of April 2020, Huzir confirmed that the police was investigating Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, the UMNO president’s daugher, on counts of violating the MCO.
“An investigation paper has been opened over the alleged MCO violations by Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid and her husband,” he said.
Back then, Huzir said the investigation was opened under two provisions – Section 269 of the Penal Code and Regulation 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas).
The first is punishable by up to six months’ imprisonment and a fine, while the second provides for a maximum fine of RM1,000 or a jail term of up to six months or both upon conviction.
Nurulhidayah had previously posted on Instagram her meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad and Deputy Environment and Water Minister Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad.
When she was accused of violating the MCO, she undertook to challenge her detractors to report the matter to the police.
Controversy grew when critics began comparing PDRM’s reception towards her more than obvious breach of the MCO with their uncompromising attitude towards other MCO violators.
They cited the case of a student who was arrested for sending a birthday cake to her boyfriend at his hime some 800m away.
The student was later fined and sentenced to a week’s imprisonment.
