Zamihan to Khalid: Say you’re sorry or I’ll sue

KUALA LUMPUR: Zamihan Mat Zin today demanded that Khalid Samad apologise for alleging that the preacher is being protected by an “influential leader.”

Malaysiakini quoted Zamihan as saying that Khalid should reveal who the purported “godfather” is, apologise or face legal action.

“Therefore, I want Khalid Samad to issue an open apology over his malicious statement aimed at spoiling my reputation, failing which, I will instruct my lawyer to initiate legal action against him without prejudice.

“If it is true that I am protected by a ‘godfather’ then I challenge the Amanah leader to reveal who is this ‘godfather’ as claimed by him,” Zamihan said.

Khalid had reportedly claimed that the unnamed “influential leader” was trying to gain an audience with the Sultan of Johor who recently rebuked Zamihan for his recent remarks.

“Khalid’s statement is not only an attempt to sully my reputation but is seen as an opportunist move for him and the opposition in response to issues that have been sparked,” Zamihan said.

Zamihan courted controversy this month when a video of him criticising Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar over the Muslim-only laundry as well as describing the Chinese as unclean people who don’t wash after themselves went viral.

Since then he was remanded for two days at Dang Wangi Police Station. Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar has also instructed the Johor Islamic Religious Department (Jain) to cut ties with Jakim over the incident, criticising the Federal Islamic Religious Department for hiring him.

The Selangor Palace has also ordered the Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) to withdraw preacher Zamihan’s accreditation as a religious lecturer and remove him from the state’s Tauliah Committee.
