Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan failed to dismiss Segambut Member of Parliament Hannah Yeoh’s defamation lawsuit against him over his remarks in a January 2020 forum.
According to reports, Hannah’s lawyer, Lim Wei Jiet, said the Kuala Lumpur High Court today heard Musa’s application to strike out the lawsuit but decided that the court should proceed with the case.
According to Lim, after having evaluated arguments from both sides, the High Court judge found that Yeoh had a “reasonable cause of action” against Musa that has to be proved in full proceedings.
On the 20th of July last year, Hannah filed a defamation suit against Musa over allegations that she tried to turn Malaysia into a Christian nation.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan failed to dismiss Segambut Member of Parliament Hannah Yeoh’s defamation lawsuit against him over his remarks in a January 2020 forum.
According to reports, Hannah’s lawyer, Lim Wei Jiet, said the Kuala Lumpur High Court today heard Musa’s application to strike out the lawsuit but decided that the court should proceed with the case.
“High Court Judge Datuk Rozana Ali Yusoff dismissed the striking out application with costs of RM3,000 awarded in favour of YB Hannah Yeoh,” Lim reportedly said.
According to Lim, after having evaluated arguments from both sides, the High Court judge found that Yeoh had a “reasonable cause of action” against Musa that has to be proved in full proceedings.
Lim added that the High Court has fixed the 2nd of April 2021 for case management.
Lawyer Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan is also representing Yeoh, while Musa was represented by lawyers Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz and Muhammad Afiq Qiwamuddin.
On the 20th of July last year, Hannah filed a defamation suit against Musa over allegations that she tried to turn Malaysia into a Christian nation.
Yeoh claimed that Musa’s remarks, made at a Universiti Teknologi Mara forum on the 30th of January the same year, were defamatory and malicious.
“Musa’s statements were made in bad faith to harm my reputation and expose me to public ridicule. The statements were intended to harm me politically,” she contended.
Musa allegedly told the forum that an unnamed group had tried to destroy Islam in the country. He is said to have claimed that he did research and found links between the evangelist group and DAP.
